292.

Artist Statement

This series is titled 292. for the 292 miles I drive from Fargo to Dickinson throughout the year. It’s widely known as the most boring drive one can take. I asked people who have driven the 292 miles why they consider it boring. The responses: “There’s nothing to look at; it’s all the same.”

I hope to show people that the drive is interesting and beautiful through the changes in the landscape and weather of North Dakota. My images explore the different landforms, landmarks, and weather changes I experience during my trips from Fargo to Dickinson. I chose to use 13x19 Hahnemühle Photo Rag Pearl paper for this project because it’s large enough to convey the vastness of the landscape while allowing me to print a larger number of images to show the change. The paper provides texture that enhances the natural landscape in a soft pearl finish. I edited the images to reflect what they looked like in person and what the landscapes made me feel at the time.
